History
Dr. med Henftling headed the Department of Radiotherapy at Schwabing Hospital when it became an independent unit in 1960. Radiation was initially performed with X-rays (RT 100 Siemens Kohler or Mueller machines).
Medical physicist Dr. Czempiel joined the department in 1963 and significantly influenced its further development. In 1987, he also became head of the Institute of Medical Physics.
After 1961 a Gammatron (cobalt unit) was used for treatment. In 1971 a circular electron accelerator (Betatron, Siemens, 42 MeV) replaced the Gammatron.
In 1988 Professor Dr. Rohloff became head of department. Before joining Schwabing Hospital, he was a staff specialist in the Radiotherapy Clinic at Ludwig-Maximilian-University, Munich.
The Betatron was replaced in 1994 by a linear accelerator (SL 20, Phillips), the first machine with a multileaf collimator in Bavaria.
When Professor Rohloff retired in 2005, the Department of Radiation Therapy of Schwabing Hospital was privatized. As of July 2005, former department staff specialists Drs. Skulina and Hoerl together with specialist Mr. Glueck run the Group Practice of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology.
The practice offices were modernized, and the technical equipment was upgraded to the highest international standards.
The group practice is certified according to ISO 9001 since 2008.
