Linear accelerators produce ionising radiation – photons (extra hard x-rays) or electrons. Depending on the required depth of penetration into the target tissue we can select electron energies between 4-20 MeV or photon energies of 6, 10, or 18MeV. The multi-leaf collimators with 120 (Varian) and 80 (Elekta) lamellae enable us to accurately define and limit target volumes. The Varian Clinac 2100 C/D accelerator can also deliver intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).

Because our practice has two accelerators, one accelerator will always be available if the other one is out of service for maintenance or because of technical problems.
