The Planning system
In order to prepare modern 3-dimensional radiation treatment planning we employ the Eclipse 3D planning system.
The radiation oncology specialist draws the desired target volume onto each CT slice. So-called risk organs, i.e. healthy tissue that requires special protection, are also carefully marked onto these CT-layers. The specialist then devises a 3D radiation plan together with a medical physicist.
Radiation usually is directed from several angles, all of which combine to include the entire target volume (multiple-field technique).

In this example the target volume (treatment field) is irradiated from 5 different directions.
