Combined Radio- and Chemotherapy

Some tumors, such as certain rectal, anal, oesophageal, lung, and ENT tumors respond well to combined radiation and chemotherapy.

In these cases chemotherapy, in the form of infusions or tablets, will be given simultaneously with radiation in order to amplify its effect. The goal is to destroy the tumor by several methods at the same time. Depending on the therapeutic plan, chemotherapy may be employed during the entire radiation series, or only at certain segments of the radiation course, such as in the 1st or 5th week of treatment, or just once per week.

Chemotherapy can be taken either as an inpatient or as an outpatient. Medical oncology specialists are in charge of administering chemotherapy. For this reason, our practice collaborates closely with the Haematology and Oncology Clinic at Schwabing Hospital, as well as with private oncology specialists. At Schwabing Hospital’s central Day Clinic of Haematology and Oncology chemotherapy can be administered on an outpatient basis. If a hospital stay is required, our patients can be admitted to the oncology wards.
